Questions & Answers

What should I bring?
Upon acceptance, it is helpful to have an idea of what to bring.  Beds are provided so we request that you do not bring one of your own.  The Dream Center will also provide you with the furniture you will need to store your clothes and other necessities.  Some recommendations of what to bring are as follows:

  • Bedding:  sheets, blankets, pillows, for a single bed etc…
  • Towels and washcloths
  • Clothes for all kinds of weather (it rarely falls below 50 degrees but it can get rather cold at night even in summer).
  • You are allowed to have a microwave and a small refrigerator in your room; you may bring this with you or purchase them when you arrive.
  • You are allowed to have a vehicle on campus.  Make sure you bring a copy of your vehicle insurance and drivers license so you can obtain a parking permit for your car.
  • You will have a roommate so keep that in mind when you are bringing items for your room, space is limited.  All housing is dormitory style living.

What will the weather be like?
The weather in Southern California is usually very moderate.  In the Summer it is warm about 40 Celsius or 110 Fahrenheit.  The winter is usually a bit cooler running 7 Celsius and 40 -50 Fahrenheit.

What is the dress code?
All departments require different dress codes.  T-shirts that advertise or advocate vulgarity, alcohol or drugs are not acceptable.  All clothing must be modest in appearance.

How much money will I need?
We require that each Intern supply their own funds for their needs and personal necessities during your stay at the Dream Center.  We recommend you budget for a minimum of USD$100 per month for personal living expenses.

Will I be able to take vacation time?
Every New volunteer will get 6 sick days and 6 vacation days after 90 days of being at The Dream Center.  You will need to discuss this with your department head.

What is a sample schedule?
While all volunteers work in different departments, the schedules from office to office and department to department will vary greatly.

Are there shops nearby and how can I get around?
There are many shops nearby for your convenience, many are within walking distance.  If you require a store that is further than that (such as one of the malls), there is a good Metro Bus system that is very easy and convenient to use.

Am I able to have a part-time job?
Volunteers are allowed to have a part time job out side of the Dream Center, as long as the job does not interfere with the responsibilities you have to the Dream Center.

What will the living conditions be like?
All volunteers can expect to have at least one to two roommates.
