RYAN JOHNSON
DCD Graduate- March 2010
Ryan Johnson is a 34-year-old graduate of the Dream Center Discipleship Program. Ryan has been married for the last 8 years and has three boys ages: 9,7, and 3 who now live on the family floor with his wife. Ryan shared about his life before the Dream Center, “I lead a normal life. I had a good job, served in the church.”
On the surface he was all put together, but underneath, Ryan found the pressures of life too great to bear and turned to drugs and alcohol for solace. It went from an occasional indulgence to consuming his whole being. Ryan shared that because of his addiction his wife kicked him out and he lost his job at a mortgage company as the Chief Operations Officer. “I missed my family, my drinking was not fulfilling anymore…I knew I had to do something.” That is when he turned to the Discipleship program for help.
Ryan shared how he has spent a total of seventeen months in the twelve-month program. He initially started the program, but was drawn away after only five months. He explains how he has always been a self-starter, but “finishing takes discipline. This is my Goliath.” After Ryan left DCD, God spoke to him about his life and asked him, “Do you want to die? The devil kills, steals and destroys; do you want that?” This experience, coupled with continued separation from the family he loved dearly, pushed him back into discipleship and to complete the program this March.
Several months into his second stint at DCD, his family came to the family floor of the Dream Center. He shared how his wife made every effort to make it on her own with his sons, but they just were not able to make ends meet and needed help. Though the circumstances leading Ryan’s family to the Dream Center are tough, he explained how it was such an awesome occurrence that he was able to see his wife and kids again while he continued to seek God.
After graduation, Ryan is going to move to the family floor with his family and currently has his résumé out and is trusting God for a job opportunity to open up. It has been a long journey, but Ryan is excited to see what God is going to do amongst himself and his family.
