KORY BARMORE
DCD Graduate- Nov 2009
“The Bible will keep you away from sin, and sin will keep you away from the Bible” is the motto that Kory lives by. Not too long ago, Kory was living a life of destruction and did not think much about the consequences. It was not until his family enrolled him into the men’s discipleship program at the Dream Center that his life was radically changed.
With his life so focused on God now, it is hard to fathom that Kory used to be heavily involved with illegal activity. He got caught up with the wrong crowd of people, and started gangbanging and selling drugs. He considered the members of his gang his friends, but they soon started stealing from each other and killing each other. By his own admission, Kory was a menace to society, robbing people and racking up money at the expense of others. When he realized that his fellow gangsters did not truly care about him, he decided that he needed to do something else with his life.
“I got tired of being sick and tired,” says Kory. A family friend told his parents about a program at the Dream Center that could help Kory. Initially, Kory did not plan to be in this program for more than 30 days, but 14 months later, he is a first year graduate of Dream Center Men’s Discipleship. He regularly reads the Bible, and knows that his past somehow led him into a deeper relationship with God. He has also been entrusted with the leadership role of a Resident Assistant, so that he can be a positive example for other disciples. “I’m making [disciples] out of [men] now,” Kory comments.
Thanks to the support of sponsors like you, Kory no longer rebels against the authority that has been placed above him, and has a new direction for his life. “Now I have integrity,” he says.
