Food Bank: Providing Groceries for Families in Echo Park

Today, May27th, an estimated 300 people came to receive bags of food

This afternoon, following the Spanish service that was held at the Dream Center, families and individuals lined up outside of the DC Diner and Men’s Discipleship home to receive groceries. Every Wednesday from 12:30 until 1:00, people in the community get tickets to ensure that they will get food.

Volunteers help to bag the food as hundreds of men, women and children come through the line, getting so much food that they can barely carry it. One woman was seen balancing pints of ice cream in her arms in an attempt to not drop them. Because of the warmer weather this season, as well as unprecedented unemployment rates, many people came out to the Dream Center to feed their families for the rest of the week.

Miguel has been coming to receive food from the Dream Center Food Bank for three years now. He also goes to Food Truck, receiving food for himself and his mother. Miguel has had cancer for several years, which has required him to improve his diet. Receiving food from the Food Bank has allowed him to watch his weight and eat healthier. He plans to start chemotherapy next month, and is grateful for the fruits, vegetables, and canned goods that he receives from the Food Bank.

Every individual who stood in line received enough food for the week for them and their family.
